Places to Eat in Salem, Oregon-Broken Bread.  Salem’s Newest Fine Dining Experience.

Last night was the Grand Opening for Broken Bread in West Salem, Oregon. So, the husband and I decided to head out there for date night.  Broken Bread is located in the old Morton’s Bistro location at 1128 Edgewater ST. NW.  The new owners have made some changes and brightened things up inside and it looks great!  The menu is ever changing and you can keep up with what the daily menu selections will be by visiting Broken Bread’s Blog.

We started off the evening by ordering a nice bottle of Pinot Noir and the Clam, Oregon Shrimp and Crostini appetizer.  The broth was delicious with plenty of garlic, and enough broth to really soak up the Crostini.   We then moved on to salads with a delightful vinaigrette dressing.  Our entrees for the night were the Petite Sirloin with Fall Mushroom Demi Glace for me and the Roasted Red Wattle Pork for my husband.  My steak was cooked just right and tender.  I like mine well done so that is not always an easy task to also make it tender.  The glace was wonderful and the ingredients were fresh.  Fingerling potatoes also accompanied both of our entrees and were so good in the glace.   My husband’s pork was so tender that it came apart with just his fork.  I have to say it was the best pork I have ever eaten.  I’m not much of a pork fan unless it is ham or bacon, but I can say without hesitation that on our next visit I would order this dish as my entree.   We finished up our evening with a sinful Apple Crisp, and I do mean sinful.  I have never had an Apple Crisp that tasted that good.  Make sure when you visit that you save room for dessert.  Oh, so worth it!    Our overall impression is that the Broken Bread is a fantastic place to enjoy a fine dining experience.  Prices are quite reasonable with entrees for $15.  They have a great selection of wines and those are also priced quite reasonably.  We wish the Broken Bread much success as we plan to spend many more dinners there.  Judging by the crowd last night, I think they are off to fantastic start!  For a look at some of the dishes on the menu  check out the video below.
