Newport, Oregon-See the Sea Lions.

Newport, Oregon-See the Sea Lions. This picture was taken down on the historic bayfront in Newport, Oregon.  You can usually see the Sea Lions laying up on the docks behind the seafood plants.   Sea Lions have been in this spot every time that I have visited Newport. You can hear them from a distance-they are loud.   We heard them on this day from way down at the beginning of the stores on the bayfront.  Newport’s bayfront has much more to offer than just seeing the Sea Lions.  There are restaurants, including Mo’s, and many places to shop.  This is also where Undersea Gardens is located, along with Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and the Wax Museum. I’m working on a video which I will post soon that has more information about what this historic bayfront has to...

Oregon Coast-Places to Eat in Newport, Oregon-La Maison

Oregon Coast-Places to Eat in Newport, Oregon-La Maison La Maison is a fairly new restaurant and bakery located in Newport, Oregon, at 315 SW 9th St.  We just happened to stumble on it when we seen an ad in one of the local area tourist magazines that mentioned Monte Cristo sandwiches, which just happens to be my favorite sandwich.  La Maison did not disappoint.   The food and service are fabulous!   The La Maison Monte Cristo is made a little differently from the standard Monte Cristo sandwich.  Roasted turkey and ham and included, but the sandwich is grilled on homemade bread and Gruyere cheese is used.   It is served with the ham and cheese on top.  Truly one of the best Monte Cristo sandwiches that I have had the pleasure of eating.  My husband ordered the Mediterranean which was also very good.  Sandwiches include your choice of soup or salad.  The soup on our visit this time around was tomato, and it was also very good.  The salad dressing that they use is very good also, very light and tasty.   I would recommend going at off hours as the parking is limited, and the cafe/bakery small. View the full La Maison...

Wine and More in Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast-C & J Boutique

The beautiful Oregon Coast is just a short 1 hour drive from Salem, Oregon.  We love to take mini vacations to Lincoln City.  On one of our recent trips, we discovered a new place to hang out, do some wine tasting and even enjoy a bottle of wine and snacks.   Our discovery was a quaint little establishment called C & J Boutique located at 3203 SW HWY 101. C & J Boutique also has fine cigars, gourmet sauces and cheeses, and other great gifts.  There is a cigar room, and a separate room to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine with snacks.  We recommend the cheese platter and the Swiss and Onion dip to go with your wine.  The tables in the wine room even come complete with a deck of cards for some light entertainment. So, the next time you are in Lincoln City and looking for somewhere to enjoy some wine, snacks and a little break, stop in and check the Boutique...

GREAT ESCAPES PART 2-OREGON COAST-LINCOLN CITY….GREAT EATS ON YOUR ESCAPE!!

GREAT ESCAPES PART 2-OREGON COAST-LINCOLN CITY….GREAT EATS ON YOUR ESCAPE!! Okay, now that you have finally done it AND MADE YOUR GREAT ESCAPE…..WHAT NEXT??? Where are you going to find the best food and best deals?? FATHOMS inside of the Inn at Spanish Head has fantastic happy hour specials. Appetizers range from $1.99 to $3.99. Our favorites?? Hot Crab and Artichoke Dip and Chicken Satay. The Grey Coast and Keylime Martinis are yummy also!! For dinner we head to Pier 101 which is the place with the huge crab painted on the side. They have THE BEST deep fried halibut and prawns. The batter is like none other. The Pier has many options for fresh seafood and steak. At first, the prices may seem a bit pricey until you see the portion sizes. The halibut chunks are a great appetizer to start out with. You’ll want malt vinegar, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce for these. The Seafood Platter is a great choice for dinner that gives you a little bit of everything-steamers in a beef/garlic broth, baked halibut, deep fried prawns, cod and scallops, and baked oysters. (I always sub the oysters out for prawns). All of this is served with Pier Plank Potatoes (awesome with malt vinegar and tartar sauce) and bread. If you have a prime rib lover in the group, then Friday and Saturday night is the time to visit the Pier. Other great places to eat for Breakfast is Richen’s on the Beach. Again, the menu is a little pricey, at about $10 a breakfast, but the portions are large enough to last you all...
